Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

Lovely and interesting reel.

Cool example! Looks like really early 15/0 Direct Drive to me. Did that come with the 2nd handle, John?
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

1937 Big drum 15/0 Fin-Nor. Direct drive so line is retrieved in from bottom of reel. LARGE reel from back when big tuna, Marlin and Swordfish Were first being caught by rod and reel and they along with Kovalovsky and of coarse Penn were among the best. Tommy it came with a second handle but off a different reel and a color gold that doesn't match at all. It is one heavy reel !!   Thanks for looking  John Taylor

Wow, that is unusual!  I can't even tell what I am looking at.  Is that just part of the head plate?  Is it part of a reel like this?  https://antiquefishingreels.com/salt-water-reels/fin-nor-salt-water/#images-3

P.S. Your photos are just the crank of the reel, right?
