Heading to South Georgia in a few weeks and want to break out one for the Bull Reds that start coming through
there about this time each year. I'm looking for a suitable 10-11 ft surf rod to pair with the 7500.
We can also pier fish for them and I may use my old 650SS for that task with a shorter and more stout rod.
Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

A 5 stack is worth its weight in gold on these reels, and 40# X8 braid spools beautifully.

So pancakes and braid is what I need?

Latest for me, has been a Penns 146 100. These narrow spool versions are quite rare in Britain and they were some of the first reels that saw the start of distance casting in uk........and then Abu seemed to happen all over.

Here in Minnesota, especially a suburban area, if you want to get rid of something, drag it out to the curb, put a "FREE" sign on it, and it'll be gone in a couple of hours.

Was tooling down a street in such a place and spotted a pile of stuff out near the street.  In it were what looked like a couple of fishing rods.  That got me to stop.  Sure enough, a reel and two rods.

A lot of folks don't care much about spin cast reels, but the reel in this case was a Johnson 100B Century, often noted as one of the better ones of that breed.  Mostly metal construction, made for many years starting in the 1950s, and built in Mankato, Minnesota.  This one is dirty and looks like it has been sitting for awhile; was attached to a no-name, old-looking fiberglass rod with wire-wound guides/tiptop and a formed ground cork handle, something that probably went for $2.99 way back when at KMart.  Not likely to do much with that rod.  But, the second rod was a graphite Berkley Cherrywood. Looks in decent shape if you can see past the dirt.

If nothing else, I can use it at a "Let's Go Fishing" event for a senior citizen or a kid, after a clean and lube on the reel of course, and a good wipe of the rod.

Those Johnson Century 100B's are the best American-made spincaster I know-of. Sorry Zebco 33, you're great, but the Century has a better drag and a handle reversible feature that's simple genius.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!
