Penn 500 s Jigmaster

Good morning people,
I just bought a nice Penn 500s jigmaster and i serviced it. The spool spins freely and the handle turns smoothly but when i tighten the drag and start cranking or have pressure on the line it starts to bind.  I have a hard time retrieving my line. What could be the issue with this.  Thanks

the star could be bottoming out against the side plate and needs to be shimmed.  the spool could be rubbing on the frame and replacing the bushings and/or straightening out the frame might fix that.  usually it's bushings.
