DAM catalog 1968, 1969 and 1970.

And there was a third type of reel for the DAM 330/285, the Rollex.

left: normal spool, center: casting/tournament spool, rigth: Rollex

Was there no demand by surfcasters for long casting spinning reels back then? Because where I live today everyone is rocking a tall spool surf reel.

That Rollex spool looks interesting .     Is it aluminum spool with a take apart drag nut for servicing ?

It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

No is a plastic spool like the normal spool of DAM 330.
It has two brakes (red and silver nut), similar to a figthing drag or freewheel brake.

How did they select what model of reel to build the long spool on?

Was there any demand for a long spool spinning reel for regular surf fishing back then? If the reel had a deeper spool of the same height like some of the newer surfcasting reels.
