Torium 20 gold repair

Does anyone know what happens if you send a Shimano in, and the parts that it needs are obsolete? Seems like I heard they will send an equivalent reel, at nominal cost, to replace it? I am starting to see reels that I can't find parts for, that were not cheap reels to begin with. Looking for options when this question comes up. This is a Torium 20 with a broken clutch lever, and I haven't found a lever, new, used, or substitute for it. There is more to fix, but w/o the lever, haven't looked into the drag issue...

They did the replacement thing with the original Corsairs.  I've never heard it with a Torium/Trinidad.

never heard something like that on Shimano, I read somewhere that accurate reels offer ( I dont know if it has an expiration date) that kind of trade/deals but they dont give you the current model of the reel or sustitute but offer your 30% discount on the newer model     

with shimano its what it is and you see many gold trinidad reels in decent shape but no longer able to repair because of the obsolete model and lacking of replacement parts for them, nice economic move for the brand and the shimano fanboys dont seem to care about it and just buy the new model at Tag price

I'm reading now that the trinidad and torium are the same and maybe the lever will fit? Anyone know? I'm reluctant to spend $40 for the lever to find out...

Tekota cross references also on some websites, they are about $6-7. They look identical, but not sure, not ever needing one. The newer style reels may also work depending how much they actually changed the parts, might just be a different look.

Did you open the reel?

The clutch lever is broken because of saltwater corrosion. The spool bearing sticking in the body. The pinion gear stuck on the spool shaft. Overall corrosion inside the body

OMG Keith, I thought the reels I got were bad.  that is bad on a whole new level.

I call them mudguard reels:  shiny on top, s#*t underneath.  Sometimes they actually scrub up OK, even rusted up AR bearings can work after a cleanup.  A lifetime in the U/S cleaner and three bearings replaced, that was it!

I haven't opened the reel, but it shifts easily with a pliers. I suspect it was dropped.

What a mess, hard to believe it will still work, though side plates don't look too corroded.   Perhaps fell in to the surf and rolled around in waves and was not rinsed.
