I have cleaned scored spool with 000 steel wool. It's not bad now20230522_145758.jpg20230522_145758.jpg   however what else can work?

It is pitted, if it is smooth use it.  You might be able to fill it with a epoxy like JB Weld.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

I'm afraid it's there to stay.  I've used 2K grit wet/dry on spotty chrome to at least smooth it out and then follow up with flitz on the whole spool.  I haven't had to do that on stainless yet.  Scoring it more could cause a bigger problem depending on the metal.

I never would have thought to fill it as Lee suggests.  If you do, I'd like to see how it turns out.

Lee hides a lot of ideas in that beard of his.

Scrub with a great toothbrush and wipe off the excess grease. You should be fine!
send me an email at alantani@yahoo.com for questions!

Won't even see it from the beach.
I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.

Lee has the right idea. If it's pitted add a little JB Weld, sand & buff it to smooth and you'll be good to go, just make sure there's no ridge to catch line.
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)
