Thanks . After replacing the drag stack with a new set .. very lightly greased/ smeared with a bit of cals drag grease, the drag performance is now smoother and able to hold better .

I'll probably thoroughly degrease the old set with naptha and keep them as spares . I suspect they somehow got over saturated with factory grease

normally, over-greasing is not a problem.  the excess just squeezes out the sides and is out of play.  glad it's all working, but i'm surprised that it was a problem to begin with.
