Some time ago Shimano, for whatever reason, threw out their old part number system and replaced it. They've been steadily releasing updated schematics with the new part numbers, but for a lot of older reels, or where people are referencing historic documents, you're stuck with the old part numbers.

Fortunately, although it's a little obscure, one of their parts websites gives links from the old part numbers to the new ones.

To find your new parts:

Go to google.com

In the search box, put the part number followed by this exact string:
site:fishshop.shimano.com

E.g. if I need the part TGT0494, I would search for:
TGT0494 site:fishshop.shimano.com

You should get back exactly one result, which is Shimano's listing for the old part number. When you click it, it will almost certainly show "out of stock" because it's the old part. There will also be a link right at the top, for example:
New Part Number: #10BQ1

Click this and it will take you to the new part... whether they have any stock is another question, but at least now you have the right part number to go hunting with  :d

Note that this only works for reels that were sold in the US Market. If you're working on a JDM reel... try Plat.

Hope this helps.
