July 3 day setups

A friend gave me 2-Yo-Zuri swim baits, sinkers, 2.2 oz, at 5", maybe a good surf/rock casting lure. Should get way out there. I like this companies stuff; relatively inexpensive and having a through-wire system.

How do the "flat line systems" work and what do they do? Looking at it I can't figure it out.

You attach them to the trolling lugs on the reel with the release mechanism on the underside of the rod then run your main line through the release so that it's more parallel to the water keeping lures from skipping out of the water....

It's rare that I succeed with a first time try using a new rig. About an 8lb. Omilu(Blue Fin Travelly). Heck of a fight, managed to keep 'em outta the rocks. Took about 15 min. for the adrenaline to subside after landing it. A sign that I'm aging... 2-tries to get em up and over the rocks. But it wasn't banged-up so I released it. Yozuri—-YES!
