I have a boat rod that needs new guides, so while waiting for the new guides and some other supplies to arrive, I played in the shop and made a guide wrap tensioner and spool holder that will hold 4 different types of spooled thread.  All materials are from the scrap pile.  The brass base is heavy enough to prevent movement when wrapping and still provide enough tension for wrapping.  Enjoy the photos!

Very useful and clever!

Thanks!

I like it. A lot actually. I usually just use my thumb. With mixed results.

Super.  Beats my pile of books.

I've done a good amount of sewing machine repair and modeled it after the thread tensioners of these machines.  You can actually buy thread tensioner assemblies on ebay and come up with something similar quite easily.  Thanks for looking at the photos; I hope it gives you some ideas.

That is some really nice workmanship!  And also neat how you "borrowed" technology from an entirely different mechanical system to solv, for a challenge - without "reinventing the wheel".  Be sure to share the rod when it's done! - john
