Making Your Own Shims for Spool Caps on End Of Spool Shaft (6500 C3 CT)

If you took a beer can, and a really sharp pair of kitchen sheers, is it possible to make your own end cap shims for centering up the spool in the frame?

Other question:  Are those shims meant to be placed in both left and right side end caps, as needed?  I just can't quite get my spool centered up in the frame.  How do y'all make your shims?

The beer can trick has been done before and was described here somewhere.  Use shims to center the spool in the frame without the end cap bottoming out or falling off.
