spool tension bearing

Hello all,
I preety much messed up a bearing last night!!  it is #48 for a daiwa luna 253. i accidently took off the shields (pressed on shields). so i just packed it with grease for now until i get the bearing in. is this ok?
since the tension shaft goes thru there would the grease mess with the braking? its the one under the spool tension cap.
