Has anyone ever installed a "C" old style brakeplate in a newer C3 style side plate? I imagine pinion and main may need to be changed to accommodate ultracast style spool, but not sure if this will throw off the geometry of the newer yoke and jack system.

I'll go ahead and answer "why would you?". Because I have such parts on hand, and ABU parts cost more than the reel they're in for even simple small stuff. I had to steal a brake plate from a USA Five 1000 and I have beater 5500C guts.

Or, if anyone has a beater 45/55/6500 C3 they'd part with...

Yes I have. Did it to get the dual anti reverse. Pinion needs to match the spool shaft, ID is different. Gear sleeve from the C4 doesn't work, I don't remember if it was too long or too short. I ended up using a gear sleeve from the 5000C. Mine ended up with the C3 shift mechanism. Don't remember why I opted for that over the original C mechanism.

Works like a charm. No issues whatsoever.
