DQ 1001 is my favorite for very long time but don't let your friend use it ,people get used to close the belt manually ( to reduce line twist or tangle ) and will broke bail arm on the reel

The 1000/1001 have a "nail nick" so that the bail can be opened or closed manually, plus to allow the bail to be folded flat against the offside plate to protect during transport and also to relieve the pressure on the bail spring —- thus prolonging its life.

@Fred - I have several Quick 1001 reels of which one has a black reel handle with red knob and the others have black handles with black knobs. Q. Was the reel with the red knob an early Quick 1001? Curious to your thoughts.

Hi John —-

The red and black knobs are very interchangeable.

As a matter of fact, the red ultralite knobs are used on other DQ reels —- 265, 110, 110N, 218, 228, 238, 1001, and more.

The black knobs were specifically for the blackout treatment on the tiny 1001.

The DAM Quick 1000 & 1001 are identical mechanically —- just color and cosmetic.

These are possibly the most attractive and best engineered Microlite reels ever produced by D-A-M.  The features are unique, the construction is metal, the spool is skirted, the worm-drive gearing is the most solid and dependable, the materials are steel, bronze, aircraft grade aluminum, the engineering is the best and most reinforced, the drags are multiple top and bottom, holds 200 yards of 4lb mono.  They will fish far above their intended target range very effectively —- for the occasional surprise large fish that we may be lucky enough to hook.  Then just Rebait and give it the next cast —- no drama, no stripped innards, just a routine and lifetime reel.  Plus only 7.9 Oz for an all metal little powerhouse.  Fits in the palm of your hand.

If you want to change out the knob, I could swap for N/C.
