I just bought a 140 squidder from a misspelled listing (Penn "scudder") for far cheaper than I'm gonna admit. I figured I could use the aftermarket spool and bars from my surfmaster 100 in it. But the part numbers are different. Are they interchangeable?

Also, why was the squidder so much more expensive of a reel (MSRP) than the surfmaster? There doesn't seem to be any noteworthy difference.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

Bars and base will work but not the spool. Squidder has bearings surfmaster has bushings. Might work in a scudder though haha
Do what you can with that you have where you are

Confusing. I know the 146 squidder has bearings I thought the first Gen (140 & 145) was bushings. I just pulled the tail plate cap. This one has bushings. Is that the only difference in the spools?

I mean I guess I could just go test. But something tells me I'm not the first to think these thoughts which is why I ask.

The spool shafts are different, I forget but I think squidder is longer

Squidder spool is not interchangeable with any other Penn reel

 The surfmaster spool interchanges with 155,160, & 185....and monofil 25,26, & 27

If your Squidder has bushings someone likely changed them in. That was the point of the Squidder.

Great, I got a scudder.

A "squidmaster" maybe. For $25 shipped I can make it a project.

Ball bearings I think (& that A/R disengage too?)

Squidder also has the patented air brake/anti-backlash fins on the plastic spool
