Friends:

Under the knurled knob on the right side sideplate of a 525GS is a black flanged plastic bushing.  Thinking it would be nice to replace it with a bearing. Has the potential to be a quick and easy upgrade. Note its not a MAG version with the ultra cast style spool and bearings.

Any experience with replacing the bushing with a bearing?  If yes, what size would a person get?

Thanks in Advance,

Whit

these are typically the same size as available bearings.  digital calipers should provide accurate dimensions.

I tried Boca via email, and they gave me a non-answer saying i should consider a bearing instead of a bushing only if Penn recommended it and providing no size or stock number.  Hmmmmm.  I don't have a set of accurate calipers, so will probably stop by Boca next time I'm down that way and let them mike it. Might be a while.

I use these reels and the GS versions for Pompano in the surf.  Great reel for the application.

Whit - I don't want to state the obvious but have to ask the question: you are only looking to replace the bearing in the tail plate?  I'm thinking you would want to replace the bearings on both ends of the spool shaft? - john

BC:

Nope: the bearings are fine.  It's just the bushing I want to replace.  Located on the handle side plate.
