record 60 ?

i just acquired an abu record 60 and have a question.......do i have to remove the brakes or is just pushing them back till they click enough to turn them off?
distance was disappointing with them on.....will i see a marked improvement by turning them off?
how much distance is the l/w costing me?

push them in.  if that doesn't work, you may have to clean out the bearings and the levelwind assembly.
