Warren says, "It was tough, no current, small baits that didn't swim, maybe 1 out of 40 swam, roughed it out all day for a few bites of the larger grade! "

Hell ya Warren!  Can't wait fish with you soon!

From brewcrafter :
For anyone still on the fence about Long Ranging, it's a great time to reconnect with good friends that I only see once a year, and to make new friends as well.  Here is Nik, first time for me fishing with him and I learned some stuff.  Nik is a talented fisherman and SUPER attentive to knot quality (as we all should be!).  Here he is with his "pending" IGFA World Record Gold Spotted Bass (existing record 10#4oz).

Did he actually send in official paperwork/application?

Bill B

Yes.  The paperwork, photos, scale photos (showing tare and bridle), etc were all completed, with the help from H&M Landing staff.   I hope it all sticks.  Nike definitely deserves it.  And a HUGE thank you to Captain Luke for spotting it when the fish came over the rail.

Bill
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

Damn, they really darken when they've been in the RSW! I've caught a bunch and they're bright with very obvious golden spots when alive!

Did anyone take a pic of the world record fish after it was caught ?

Congrats to Nik!

Not sure if there are any "over the rail" pics but as Bill said, pretty much everyone just thought "Nice Fish" but it was Captain Luke that stepped up and called it out, checked what the existing record was, and did an informal weigh on the boat with a spring drag scale which was close enough to say "hey this is at least in the ballpark".  I believe Nik even retired that particular outfit for the rest of the trip in the event of needing to send in/verify line/leader/etc. - john

Hats off to the captain for the presence of mind. Of course it's great press for his boat too.

I once caught an over 5' bonnet head shark, released it, and learned a few hours later that the world record was 4'-10" long. I could've been famous.
