In prior thread, i showed the rescue results of 7 in a junk pile reels. I was able to rescue 330N with parts from Fred over the years. The issue was a broken handle and bent shaft which i exchanged. Note how much longer it is compared to 330. I assume handle was for 400 series but works fine.
Another issue is the handle and gear shaft on a 550N. The drag and spool were damaged and bail spring not working. I have overcome those issues. What stumps me, is what is missing to the main gear and how does shaft attach to gear? I see two holes but don't seem like micro hex screws. Interested in knowing whats missing so i can rescue this one!

Do you have the steel crank axle?

If you do, all you need is a little hollow split-edged roll pin to connect the crank shaft to the main gear.

These are not on the schematic, since DQ likely thought that the average person could not easily install the roll pin without damaging the main gear.

It is really simple.  Just barely start the roll pin into one of the (2) holes in the main gear.  Slide the main gear onto the crank axle, lining up the opposite side hole with a pick.
Then, do not pound it in with a hammer!  Just use a smooth-jawed plier wrench.  It just easily inserts the roll pin smoothly without damaging the main gear.

Whatever you need, just let me know and I'll send it out.

Thanks. The info you gave in message now makes sense. The axel is missing as i rescued this reel and re built with parts from you. I see how the tiny roll pins fit in gear. I think a new gear to axel assembly would be easier fix. Also need a handle for 550.

I'll send out the gear with the assembled axle and roll pin.

And a crank handle including a crank knob and the knob screw.

Also included a roll pin for the crank handle.

They will go out today.
