I recently upgraded my modem/router to an Arris G34, it has made a remarkable change in speed. It's wifi 6/Docsis 3.1. Fiber isn't available on our street yet & with cox it is a free upgrade when it becomes available. With my new speed I am content. Anywho, my old laptop is maxed out at Windows 10 & has an onboard 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter.

I found several Wifi 6 USB adapters on Amazon that are model AX900 w/different brand names & packaging. I assume the guts are the same,I ordered this one for science just for sharts & giggles... This is my laptop's current speed connected to 2.4Ghz.I will report my results later with the new adapter :fish

What speed is your internet connection?

If your laptop is fairly old it probably only has USB2.0 ports so you'll max out at maybe 450mbps, downhill with a tail wind.

EDIT: The screenshot would be considered bad throughput for 802.11G let alone 802.11N, you might have issues elsewhere in the chain...

500Mbs internet,laptop has 1 usb 3.0,2 usb 2.0 ports
Normally I get around 20Mbs wifi @ 2.4ghz connection

Good deal,
I could use 12 mbps speed
I can download more pics of spinning reels
:-)

FYI
Cable based internet in my area goes down often. I had to get rid of it and go with lte based wireless internet

If your mother board have M.2 slot it's work much better than USB . I always use wire connect if I can and get close to 1 Gb/sec only 1 computer in bed room that I have to use wifi ,I use a M.2 wifi 6 and get 300mbps ,still good enough to download 4 K movies to watch

This is with the new adapter connected to 5Ghz on the USB 3.0 port,I was able to get up to 109 Mbps on another server. It's an improvement, but not as fast as they claim.

UPdate:
My daughter pays $40/mo.for 300Mbps
I chatted with Cox today & downgraded from 500M to 300M,$90/mo
to $50.I am getting over 200Mbps with the new docsis 3.1 modem it's almost as fast wifi for $40 less a month.15Mbps is all you need for 4k streaming,It pays to investigate what you are paying for & the equipment you are using.I just rolled with what I had for years paying more
& now I am getting more for my buck.

If you don't need the performance, sure. I'd be looking into why you weren't getting the full flow, as that could be indicative of an issue somewhere in the chain.

The wifi connection is never as fast as the hardwired connection.

Even the USB wifi 6 adapter(5ghz)connects at 80+Mbps,which is slower than all my on board G adapters.Wifi is the bottleneck.

I like my modem/router combos for simplicity but also probably affects the speed.

Quality vs quantity,
Wifi suffers when you have more than 1 connection.

My D and Grandma are streaming 2 things simultaneously most of the day, that is 4 steams in HD.

D does tiktoks and movies off netflix
while grandma watches fishing videos and soaps.

This all on LTE crappy tmobile internet

$50 for cox is good value.

I complain a lot about my crappy internet, but seems better than some of you.

Is a wired connection to my router and I pay for 240Mbps Symmetrical.   However in the evenings when everyone is streaming TV it drops right down to 80 Mbps,   not enough subscribers here is the answer I get.

My surfboard app states I have 10 devices connected most of the time, some you don't realize.printers,TVs,tablets,& the Directv is connected for streaming when there is a bad SAT signal.I feel good about what I am getting the most bang for my buck now. When my wife's phone is paid for I am leaving verizon for cox mobile as well.
