Hello.

Does anyone know where I can source parts for a Shimano Baitrunner 3500 (No A, B, etc in the model number)?  Or where I might possibly locate a loaner reel likely to have the parts I need in usable condition? Specifically, I need the drive gear and the oscillating gear.  The drive gear is stamped "BTR35B" and the oscillating gear has what looks like a faint "13" and a "1" molded into it. These gears have different parts numbers in each of two exploded schematics (dated '87 and '92) for the original model 3500 that I found online.  So far my searches for the parts have not been successful.

The secondary gear on the drive gear and the oscillating gear it engages are both missing multiple teeth, but after removing the sheared off gear teeth from the reel body, the rest of the reel looks like it could be returned to service.

Thanks
Ken

I think your best bet would be ebay looking for a parts reel.

I have two mint 3500 but obviously not going to part them out. I also have a 150 and a 250 I think. Collecting is a curse, lol.  I wish I could dump all my reels.

The baitrunners' are sweet reels. Sorry no help.
I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.

This is what I have. Condition isn't the best. If you can use it, it's yours. Just send me a PM with your address.

I realized when I boxed up the reel parts after making my original post that while the side cover and reel body are both labelled "Baitrunner 3500", the spool is labelled "3500B". A 4500 I bought at the same time has similar labeling, "4500B" on the spool, "4500" on the side plate. I bought the reels used from EBay in the 2007-2010 timeframe.  My apologies if this makes a difference.

Using an online schematic (Reelschematic.com) for the 3500B, the drive gear is part RD7445 and the oscillating gear is RD0841.  An older (1991) schematic for the baitrunner 3500 gives the same part number for the oscillating gear but a different one for the drive gear, RD2954.

Randy/Reeltyme, thanks for your post and PM. I responded to the PM separately

It looks like it might be a challenge freeing up the bearings and cleaning the gears without damaging them, but whether or not I can find the parts elsewhere, this might get mine working or give me a backup for parts I now know can fail under use.  The gears I need are in this screenshot from your picture.

Alan and others, if you do have access to the parts, I am still interested.

Thanks,

Ken

Many thanks to Reeltyme for the parts reel.  I was able to clean up the oscillating and drive gears from that to replace the stripped gears from my reel.  In the photo below, stripped original gears are on the left, replacements before cleanup on the right.

Slight differences in the drive gears meant I had to use the handle from the parts reel, making the end result a true Frankenreel. All systems work on the bench; I plan to take it fishing later in the week to try for stripers on live bait.

Thanks again, Randy, and to others who offered advice.

Nice! The B model spools are aluminum. I had an A model from the 80's when they had Triton in the name and the spool was graphite.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!
