I have a few Ambassadeurs in my collection. I recognize them by size, bearing, & spool release nomenclature but have no idea all the different options
i.e. AB,CL,& so forth.Is there a list.Also,how many anniversary editions are there i.e. 35th,75th?

Fred is definitely the go to guy for just about anything Ambassadeur from that era.
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

Do you have a two speed in that collection?

I would like a 2 speed, I am looking for one. It seems they are all Burgundy in color 5500/6500C3?

I have a black plate one. Mine's all locked up and doesn't spin I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

It's really hard to tell how many of which models were made.  ABU had a lot of prototypes make it out into the wild plus very limited runs of others.  New stuff is seemingly discovered quite frequently.  Simon Shimomura has written books about reels from the pre-'81 Classic era and has done extensive research and was able to see first hand some models in Svangsta that were produced in small numbers or never made it to production.  As far as the more contemporary era, that's where things get more difficult because nobody has stepped up to document much as of yet.  What I find interesting with the more contemporary models, there are some store exclusives.  For instance, the C4 Mag was a Walmart exclusive while the C5 Mag and Mag-X were Cabela's exclusives.  Those are the two most glaring examples.  Mom and pop stores could and did also order Ambassadeurs configured how they wanted them.  I believe the minimum order was 100 reels, so there are some out there that have little recognition or documentation about them because they were only sold in one store.  One of them I have been after for some time.  I don't remember the name of the store, but they were somewhere down south and had a gold 4500CS Pro Rocket with a bait clicker and they seldom come up on eBay.

Some have the silver coat of arms, some gold ? I have no idea why though.

Yes mine is a burgundy one. I just saw it when I was cleaning out my garage. If I need to I can locate it again lol. This is a minty example, the box is a bit haggard due to moisture. My garage roof leaked bad this past winter so anything that could absorb water in the air did.

I bought my 4 green Mag-x reels at Academy sports,....so not exclusive.

James, the second sticky ABU Nomenclature, by Bryan Young is helpful with all the different letters.
