265 - 275 time to fill the gaps

         Taking the rock solid  270 and downsizing the rotor and spool to 330 .           
  Sometimes the the 270 is just to big .   I have a few details to finish up , but very doable .   The 440 is just as easy to fit to the 270 frame .

Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

One of the things to get past is the bail closing on the up stroke .  Had to make a new spool nut .  Than to make a drag to work with a 270 shaft and a 330 spool .
 Made a nut to work , cut washers for the drag from stock .  So far it works , need to try spooling different size lines for spool fill .   

 Started making the 440 setup .

The line roller on a 265 Microlite, is it supposed to roll?
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

The 330 and the 440 are done and working . Two more join the wormdrive oscillation shaft group .

:)  Putting 15 pound line on the 440 , and tuning the line lay .
      Top heavy than bottom heavy to balanced spool , but thin in the middle
" Hourglass "

   Fixed this with changing the stroke .

  Rewind spool again , got rid of the Hourglass . 650 yards 15 pound braid .
   
  Removed and replaced with 40 pound braid . A little fat on the bottom now , but a 10 thousand shim will fix that . Last two pictures .

    Spooling the 330 rotor size ,I tried the 440 stroke .  Looks like it needs a shorter stroke . Went to 392 stroke , and all is well .  Pulled line off, just to spool line tiegher .   Ready to fish !

Seems like an awful big & heavy body for such a small rotor/spool & line capacity. :o
Love those open face spinning reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco Cardinals)

First two pictures are the 270 with a 3000 . The other two are the 275 with a 3000 .   Size wise they are very close , the 270 just stands taller than the 3000 . About one ounce difference in weight .

I fished the 270/330 two time already and like it . I have to clean up the spool nut on that one , were as the 275 has a cleaner slope for braid .  The knurling caught the 15 pound braid a few times .

I have thought about a 220 , but that would look strange on either frame 265 /270 .
  The 275 with the 330 rotor gives me more fighting power . I have 260 yards of 40 pound braid with room for a long leader . I will test this combo on Sunday ,with big fish !!

I never really gave this a thought but...  for the ultra light side a larger rotor should let the line flow better?  Any combo's come to mind?

  Yes a larger spool diameter general does better for casting . I do a lot of bottom fishing and build reels to suit my needs . Some of them are built for more winding power .
