I picked up a DQ 110 a while ago. My son used it and the ancient spool suffered a catastrophic implosion and the entire drag stack disappeared into the lake. No worries, I will contact Fred for replacement parts. He rhen made me an offer I couldn't refuse, "send it to me and let me rebuild it".  So off it went. A couple weeks later it was returned with a reel Brewcrafter needed Fred's touch. All I can say is WOW!  I sent him a beat up 110 and received a brand new reel!  Hopefully Fred will chime in on what was done to restore this reel.  If you haven't had him work on your DQ I highly recommend it.  Now for some reason I couldn't find John's reel in the box.  Hopefully it didn't make it into my stash of reels 😁

It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

"Couldn't find John's reel in the box" is slang for "Going for Lake Gregory catfish record."  Bill is not exaggerating; I am fortunate enough to have had a handful of Fred reels (keep in mind a lot of these are well over 1/2 century old - older than a lot of you younger folks who wouldn't understand the "Made in West Germany" mark) and every one of them looks and functions as good or better than the day it left the factory.  Rebuilt and tuned with factory parts that were also made at that time; not new "reproductions".  For newer members, Fred posts a lot of information (reels and other mechanical stuff) on the site, and he is one of MANY here where I would say "Pay attention to what he is doing and learn." - john

Fred has all the tools to massage the parts for a slick as glass fit . Plus he uses newer style lubricants with liquid ball bearing performance .  :D Yes he does have a very, very broad knowledge .But that is why we come here , to learn stuff..

I learn as much or more from you guys -- it is a 2-way street.

These days, I just stay in my little niche corner -- specializing in only top quality spinning reels.  Penn, DAM Quick, Mitchell, and ABU/Zebco Cardinals.

In between working on customer reels from around the world, I also build new reels from the new old stock parts inventory that sell fairly swiftly.

Recent builds for sale are DAM Quick 220's, 265's, 220N's, 2000 Champion, 5001, 550's, plus some Penns -- 716,714, Z models, a 750SS, and others.  also some Mitchells.

Here are a few that I do when customer parts are being cleaned in the Ultrasonic cleaner.  Hate to waste time or opportunities.

Best, Fred

Still looking at my 110 and I can't tell where original parts are or where new parts start. I was going to gift this 110 to my son, but now he has to wait until I pass until he gets his mitts on it  :d. Bill

P.S.  Still can't find John's 550 that was supposed to be in the box.  Might have to  check the fishing reel collection to ensure it didn't "fall in to it" 😉
