Donnyboat's Madlin 700/E2/7

Don has been busy cleaning up another reel and asked me post a few photos for him. It looks like an Alvey side cast to me but has "Madlin" stamped on it.











I'll let Don fill you in with the details,

Yes thanks again Mike, we had a bit of confusion about this reel, it has the normal Alvey sticker on the back plate, but on the xsturnal spring, I thought it said Madlin, but after some help from a another Alvey  collector we worked out, madl is acually Made in then the model details 700/e2/7 and Australia, under that, but this is the only Alvey spool that I have seen laminated, I was`nt awear of it till after I removed the dirty line, cheers Don.

That explains why it looks like an Alvey

sure does Mike, note that the drag dog, is grease free, just use light oil were it pivots, you only have to undo 1 screw to take the complete spool of and add more oil, that screw is only hand tight, it has a spring under the shaft of the screw to stop it from working loose, cheers Don.

Don, the old wood side casters are on of my favorite reels. Alvey  made some beauty's in their time for sure. Yours is one of the nicer ones for sure! Thanks for sharing!

Yes for sure, but one thing that annoys me is that there is now were to tye the line, I dill a hole through the fibre glass models, but not the wood, cheers don.

 Is that spool laminated,  plywood , than heavy coated in resin ?  Looks cool ..

Thanks Joe, I placed one coat of varnish on it, as when I was trying to spin it with a drill, it came out of the chuck, & bounced of the concrete, the only dent it received was on the top, witch is mostly covered by the back plate, yes it is laminated by the look of it, very nice, also getting back to the drag, when you first get these reel, it is best to remove the spool & take photos of the spring set up, also I carry some 120Lbs of Stainless steel leed wire & use it to make springs from. cheers Don.
