Looking for a long bamboo stick about 1" round 8-10 feet long

I want to make a long gaff ,looking for a bamboo rod ,1"x10' . What store carry it . Other than bamboo what is other material I can use ?

Here, some home improvement stores have decorative bamboo that might work.  Aluminum would be better.

Have had (3) swimming pools at various homes over the years.

The aluminum extension poles for the nets and brushes might work well and be light and strong.

Just ran out to scrap metal to find a Aluminum pipe but that place closed for good , Ice catch them hiring unlawful people . Thank  foakes I have one swimming pool net as you said and I can shorten to 3'.I also have a piece of 5/16" stainless can be bend to make a hook .Will make a aluminum gaff with these

I wouldn't trust the nut that tightens the extension sections.  Maybe only use the bottom section.

Visit Hawaii, you can cut for free. Walk around when windy, you will hear it "clacking". Kidding, no shipping anything like that due of course to size and plant restrictions.

 I use a pool pole with the twist to lock style .  Changed the tip with heavy wall pvc and thread on the accessories for net , gigging ,gaff or saw to prune trees .

I really like the Idea of screw the hook in handle rather than tight up with string . My net is screw in handle with M8 thread .Found on Ebay a gaff hook with M8 thread at reason price . Now I have interchangeable net and gaff ,easy to carry

I've made a few gaffs using wooden broom handles and large hooks such as an O'Shaughnessy 14/0. Whip with strong cord and add hose clamps if you need to. A lighter and longer handle can be made from an old surf-casting rod blank, or possibly a pole-vaulters old pole if you can find such a thing? I guess they must wear out and lose their 'spring' just as surf rods do.

It's funny, I was thinking about doing a 30' "mega tree" with the lights I got on clearance and I'm thinking a good bamboo pole might be the way to go. Like the fat lower section of a 50' stick of tonkin bamboo might be exactly the ticket.

30 ft. can't be handled in commerce.  Your best bet is a local bamboo thicket somewhere.  It won't be Tonkin cane though.
