penn 12/0 senator dog & spring

I just took apart a used 12/0 i bought to check out the condition inside, but now i am having trouble putting it back together.
Where do i put the dog spring??

G'day and welcome Mike,
The dog spring (ie bent piece of copper) sits against the top of the dog and the inside of the cavity around the bridge plate screw, and flexes around the Bakelite post.
Hope that's of some assistance.

now how do you suppose is the best way to get in place under the plate that goes over it and in position with the gear?
