Good evening all. I have an Abu Record 60 issue regarding the AR bearing in the spool. Not sure if I caused it cleaning or if something else had happened, but along the reels life there was mild corrosion and the bearing under the centrifugal brake felt rough. I had difficulty removing it, and in the end I had parts of the spool AR bearing in the palm of my hand.

I have not been able to develop even a part number or instruction regarding the AR spool bearing. I was considering even purchasing the complete spool assembly but it seems they are no longer available.

So my question is two part. Does anyone here have a solution to repair the Record with appropriate parts, and/or can I just ignore the AR function of the spool and build it as if it was a typical Ambassadeur of a like vintage?

Thank you in advance.

The spool has an AR bearing??? What a curious design, I'm gonna need a photo of this purely for interest's sake.

Yeah I want to help but I'm more than a little bit confused by what I'm reading.

Please post pics if you can.

while there is no specific pic of the IAR bearing in the middle of the spool, Alan already put a bunch of pictures of that reel and there is post about how that IAR bearing work on this abu model  (BTW, its a great sturdy reel, I have one)

To those looking for images, I wasn't able to photograph it well as it looks like a small bushing down inside the spool, however definitely damaged as I have the some of the rollers from it and part of the cage.

The second thread in the reply from steelfish has an excellent cross sectional of where it would be.

Steelfish, thank you for taking the time to look up the past threads and including them in the replies. I had already run into the first one, but not the second one in my searches, truly appreciated.

I am not very sure about driving it out though, and especially not installing a new one, as it seems to be quite the friction fit.

Yes I have worked on a couple from time to time, try to tap it out lightly, not to sure witch way they come out, but when working good, the reel is very smooth, good luck cheers Don.

Abu seems to like those little technological additions to improve their reels. The best explanation was in one of the referenced threads, maybe DavidC?; the one way bearing in the spool, is to take pressure off the external cast control cap???? If that's what it's supposed to do,...ok. How? Maybe I misunderstood what he ment.

I hate those ARB's. It seems the latter reels that come with just a bushing, have the typical Abu dog-ear AR on the brake plate. Much better.

So...

In for a penny, in for a pound, I got the punch and ball peen out.. it came out with an expected amount of resistance. It is an "INA" Brand "HF0406 KF-A". I have been searching online for an hour or more trying to find one in stock at a location that will also sell to individuals. ebay/Amazon have some sources, but most are either in China advertising INA bearings or in the states with no-name bearings or names I am not familiar with.

Anyone have a favorite source for odd bearings? (Anti-reverse, 4mm inside, 8mm outside, 6mm long, plastic cage)

Thanks again!
