A Man’s Knife

OK, we have all been to the fair or trade shows and seen the guy selling knives that will do anything, anytime, anywhere —- until we get home and try it out...

Or the info-mercials doing the same thing, right?

Well, about 2 months go, I fell for one of the info-mercials selling this HUUSK Chef's knife.  Then did a little research, and found knife experts quietly praising these knives that remind me of what a Viking marauder might carry.

So I bought one to try out, cost me about $30 with tax.

Cheap, right?

Well, was I ever impressed and surprised.

This knife is a solid tool, made in Japan —- not China or Vietnam, or Pakistan.

It is simple, with excellent materials and components.

So far, I have used it to slice racks of ribs —- as smooth as a hot knife through butter.  Tri-Tips, rope, an old leather boot, a tire to use the rubber for a machine buffer, and trimming Rib-eyes.  Cuts fruit and tomatoes as thin and quick as a paper cutter.

It has not even began to dull.

It has a great grip, a through backbone as strong as a Rhino, (3) oversized through pins, and more.

Looking on Amazon last Friday, they were on sale for less than $17, including a leather sheath that was not with the first one I ordered.  Free shipping, ordered 2 more.  Arrived today via UPS. 

An amazing value on what I consider to be an excellent knife.

Plus, it looks and feels like a mountain man's knife might have been 200 years ago.

Wife asked me if I really needed another knife.  She asked how many I have now.  I gently explained if I knew that —- I probably didn't have enough.  Sue is still rolling her eyes.  But that's OK.

Fred I trust your judgment on tools & just ordered 2 myself. One will be a Christmas gift for a friend.

Japanese high carbon steel knife is sharp and keep the edge for long time but need to take care after use , wipe with vegetable oil before put away

Glad you've had a good experience.
Mine wasn't so, unfortunately.
While of a Japanese style, they're manufactured in China - which is no problem in and of itself, just worth noting in terms of 'caveat emptor'.
Still hoping my requested refund comes through, but not holding my breath.

A good knife is pleasing to use; a bad one is worse than worthless, especially if you paid something for it or it failed to live up to the "hype".

Mine has been more than fine.  It is made from Japanese Steel, and so far has held up very well for me. 

Plus, if I am wrong —- I am out $36.  Sunday, Sue and I stopped for breakfast on the way home.  2 pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, water, no coffee.  It was $37 with a tip.  And that has already been processed!

I'm happy to report my refund was processed and received overnight.
Interestingly, Huusk is based in Lithuania which, as part of the EU, very likely added to the purchase protections which would be absent were it based elsewhere...
