with the loss of the 8-day on the SOA, we are going to try another trip to cedros.  they are certainly easier on these old bodies of ours.  it's really nice to get off the water at the end of the afternoon.

Here's a opportunity to fish with two of my favorite turds, Mike and Tod.  If the tree did not fall on our house I would jump right on this trip.  Good fishing, great people working there and some fun guys to fish with.

Alan, I'm going to be proactive and cancel this Sep/Oct Cedros trip. My 6th, and hopefully last, chemo infusion falls right in the middle of the trip. I haven't paid a deposit, so there's no finances to fool with. I am PIF for the August trip. My 4th chemo infusion is scheduled for 8/19, the day before I fly to SD. I'm hoping to get the doc to move it back at least a day. In case anyone is wondering WTH, I was recently diagnosed with "early" stage 4 lymphoma. It's a fairly common cancer and there's numerous "best practice" treatments available. You guys ain't getting rid of me just yet!
My 1st infusion was two days ago (Wednesday the 17th). The 1st 12-18 hours was pretty bad, but I'm doing much better now. Hopefully the other treatments will go even better. Quien sabe?

Random remark on fishing Cedros: Last week I returned from a 15 day trip on the Red Rooster. Because the fishing was so sharky at Hurricane Bank and spotty on the Ridge, we fished the last two days of our trip out of pangas at Cedros. The fishing was great. Each of our pangas had three fishermen plus a deckhand from the Rooster and the panga captain. The yellow fishing was spectacular -- big fish and lots of them. The six I tagged weighed in at 174# by Five Star -- and I gave more than that away to other fishermen. Our panga also caught a nice 20# halibut and managed to break 100# spectra **twice** on big black sea bass. If you are considering signing up for the Tani Cedros trip, do it!

I'm leaving on a 10 day this Sunday. Polo is supposed to pass over Baja on Tuesday down by Mag Bay. Hopefully the winds will okay for you all flying to Cedros. I'm assuming we'll stay up in US waters for a couple of days before heading south. Thanks to historically high diesel prices our fuel surcharge is $550!

There's now a hurricane watch on Baja from Pt Eugenia (mainland Baja closest to Cedros) to the lower banks below Mag Bay.

Just a tip that may be useful: I fished Cedros two days at the end of the Red Rooster June Heat this past summer. We nailed the yellowtail both on yo yo and surface iron. The best yo yo iron for me was red crab. They seemed to want that very bit or more than scrambled egg or blue white. BTW: I kept only 6 yellows but those fish weighed and average of 28# a piece at Five Star.

checking out windfinder.com.  by tomorrow afternoon, the hurricane should make landfall on the baja peninsula.  by tuesday 5am, it should have hit the mexican mainland and dissipate into a brutal tropical storm.  for cedros on tuesday, the 29th, 17 knot winds on tuesday at 8am should allow the plane to take off with the group that is currently on the island.  we should be able to board at 11am and fly to cedros, on schedule, with a tail wind.  winds are 14mph at 11am and 12mph at 2pm.

sadly, there is now another pacific storm that is forming off the southern mexican coast, almost due west of guatemala.  it looks like it will follow the same track as polo.  it will hit 60 miles per hour when it brushes past puerto vallarta.  this one will slam straight into cabo at 70mph on saturday.  the windfinder model has it tracking straight up the baja peninsula, over land, losing strength as it goes.  the model only goes up to sunday, the 4th.  it shows the storm still hundreds of miles away from cedros.  we should be able to fly out with no problem at all.  mexico's west coast just can't catch a break.

for our fishing days, wednesday the 30th is 7mph at 5am and 9mph at 2pm.  thursday, october 1st, is 10mph at 5am and 13mph at 2pm. friday, october 2nd, is 12mph at 5am and 1mph at 2pm. saturday, october 3rd, is 12mph at 5am and 13mph at 2pm.  sunday, october 4th, is 9mph when we fly out at 8am.

obviously, this can change.  we will now resume your normally scheduled programming.
