is there any significance to spool color?

On my Royal Maroons I have noticed some white spools on 2052s, and some black spools, but no maroon ones, while in the 2062s I have a mishmash of maroon spools and black spools. Is this just variations over time, or is there something that would make me want one color vs the other...durability, etc?
