If anyone's curious there's a pretty nice 1970 on ebay at the moment. I understand VERY few were made.

Yikes. I can buy a whole bunch of unusual Shakespeare trade reels for that kind of money.

Glad I live where I do. 10% Ethanol, which we use in our autos all the time, is $3.38 standard price around here away from the interstate. I don't see it as that bad considering what it was 2 or 3 years ago.  ;)

Here's an incomplete, damaged see through salesman sample...from a FB group.

Midway Tommy

There were only twelve of the clear acrylic salesman samples made and as far as I know there isn't one that has survived in undamaged condition. The acrylic is pretty sensitive and got stress cracked pretty easily.

At one point Dick Braun (That Zebco Guy), before he passed away, knew who had all the clear SSs and most of black  examples. I don't know if he shared that information with anyone prior to his passing. I do know he told me about what he had documented ten or so years ago.

Tommy, you raise an interesting point. I wish there was a registry for really unusual reels like these, sort of what the Cadillac folks do with the 1959 and 1960 Pininfarina-built Broughams. About 100 were built each year and the vast bulk are accounted for on the club's website. Some even have ownership histories.

Midway Tommy

I know the full history of my 1970. I'm the second owner. I got via eBay, and interestingly enough, it was a local (to me) seller who was actually a Zebco sales representative that got it back in 1969 when they were passed to their sales reps. He said it sat in its box on a shelf in his basement for over 30 years because Zebco never went ahead and marketed it.  ;D  8)
