Just finished servicing a couple nice Daiwas for the coming season, a D1600 and a D2600, and figured I'd snap a picture of the black beauties. As far as I can tell the Dxxxx are the same thing as the RG's (not to be confused with the xxxxD's which are different). Essentially a xxxxX with silent AR (not to be confused with the 3 digit X's, which are also different), and similar to the BG but with bushings on the main gear. The BG15 spools are interchangeable with the 1600, while the 2600 has the push button spool of the X, which was abandon on the larger BG's . Curiously too, they have the bail spring on the side opposite the bail arm which is different than the BG15, but I believe its the same as the a bg20 and up. So depending on the size they may or may not be able to use a BG bail spring... thanks for keeping everything straightforward Daiwa!

I've fished the 1600 hard for a few years now, and landed quite a few trophy pike on it, hard fighting fish around the 20lb mark. Its been a great reel. The 2600 is a new addition, and I've just ordered the parts to upgrade the bushings and drag on both reels.

I like push button spool on D series , they have plastic bushings and can be replace with bearings .Regal series have brass bushings also can replace with ball bearings . BG and GS series have 3 ball bearings .All good reels

Look nice. Are they metal or graphite?

Two rules on the boat
1. Fish where the fish are

I actually kind of like the plastic bushings better, I've only had a couple Daiwas with the brass bushings but I think that because of their more elastic nature the plastic ones allow for a tighter fit and less slop. I'm upgrading these particular reels to ball bearings mostly because in cold weather you can sure feel the difference between these reels with bushings, and those that have ball bearings. In warmer weather the bushings are fine IMO.

My 2600 spool is no longer "push button" unfortunately, I got a good deal on that reel because the seller said the spool would not stay on, as suspected the retaining spring was missing. I took a small piece of a slightly larger sized cotter pin and then sanded it down to a friction fit, then stuffed that in there to hold the spool on. Secure now, and if I'm ever lucky enough to find a retaining spring it can easily be returned to original. For now it will fish just fine.
