When replacing the main gear on a high speed Mitchell 408 with the bronze main gear (instead of the alloys in the 308) —- it is also important to replace the bearing/pinion assembly.

A new main will generally benefit from a non-worn in pinion.

These two gears kind of wear in at the same rate.

With a huge thanks to Fred, new bail came in this weekend. I got it all squared away. Now just trying to figure out which rod I'm going to use. Couple old Wright and McGill rods that I'm leaning towards. A Trailmaster (red/orange) or a "Toughy". The square fiberglass on the Toughy is pretty cool! Thoughts?

Wow.  I never herd of a square glass rod. Is it solid or hollow?

Are you laying your 408 on the drive way "Foul"?

In my defense, it's the garage so it's smooth lol

It's solid I believe! I've used it for crappie a little bit. I think they made them in the 50's, but I'm sure someone here knows more
