Hey, all!!

Back with another completed stripdown and complete restoration of another Martin Precision spin reel.

This go around, it is a very special rare grey model 27.

I was lucky enough to aquire thus beautiful reel from forum member, Fred Oakes.
Thank you, Fred!! Straight shooter!

She had definitely seen a full life, but probably no action, for several decades.

Intact, but rough and missing parts and previous repairs, present.

The original crank handle nut was MIA and replaced with a stripped out acorn nut. Gotta go...

Also, the bail arm had been silver soldered due to threaded end being snapped off.
 Functional, but ugly. Gotta go...

Lastly, the check carrier had been ground away and no drag click mechanism was present or able to be present. Lol
 Gotta go...

I have another rough greenie 103 that had all the correct parts and since the grey 27 is rarer than the 103, I used the parts from the 103 to get the 27 up to par.

I also created a transparent side cover plate for her.

I left all the great patina on the external hardware and all battle scars present, but touched up the internal cavity for the transparent side cover plate.

All mechanics lubed with faucet valve grease and light machine oil throughout.

She's definitely ready to relive some former glory, real soon!!

Thank you, Fred Oakes for selling this splendid reel, so I could bring her back to how she deserves to look and function, for USE!

Peace!!

Thank you.
These are lovely, often overlooked, beautifully engineered USA mfg. spin reels, that rival many European counterparts of the day.

Martin mainly made fly reels, so the spin reels and spincasters get overlooked.

Real beauties.
