I wouldn't hesitate to eat a large enough flying fish.  The way tuna and dorado gobble up the things, you'd think they were bright blue candies.

Put it on the kite and send it back out!

My 7 year old grandson is a diehard fisherman ,but when the bite is slow he is constantly reeling in moving the bait.
I tell him "there ain't no flying fish in this pond"

Don't ever let him see a flying fish, or a group of them, bursting from deep blue water all shimmering blue and silver, with wings catching the light that wonderful shade of purple-pink.  Once you have seen the ocean like that, you will never be truly happy in an office or doing any kind of "land job".

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.   Alto Mare

One year while on the SOA we were anchored off an island near Cedros.  After dinner we were on the stern goofing around seeing what would bit.  A sea lion had chased a school of fliers towards the boat.  The fish began slamming into the sides of the boat and a few flew into the boat.  We netted about 8 that stunned themselves and picked up a bunch more.  They were plastic wrapped and tossed into the freezer for use as bluefin bait.

Another year on a 3 day SOA bluefin trip fishing was slow so we motored in close to a Coronado island, and the crew netted fliers as we slowly searched the shallow waters.

Pretty cool fish.  Bill
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

I was on a 24 hr headboat trip out of Calabash, NC about 15 years ago. In the dead of night a pod of dolphins chased a school of flying fish toward the boat. The fish were, I guess, attracted to the lights on the boat because several landed in the boat. They weren't flying their usual low, gliding flight, some were flying almost straight up in the air out of the water. I saw a couple fly over top of the headboat, which seemed weird.
