I received this reel in a lot in which the reel that I was interested in was high enough in value to purchase the 4 reels. The prize was an ABU 505. 2 reels were just junk. This 923C seems solid and it cleaned up well.
The non-handle side oil cap and spring are missing. Are there any reliable sources for Ocean City parts out there, or does anyone happen to have these parts?
Thank you
-Steve

Hi Steve —-

Got a small stash of old new Ocean City & True Temper Conventional reel parts.

Matched up a new oil port, off-side spool cap & tension spring with a OC 923.

Will send out to you tomorrow.

Already sent out the Daiwa 500C last Friday.  So this will go by itself.

I have a 922, almost the same. Very solid little conventional. What's the purpose of the fluted spool?
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

Greg,
My understanding is that is there to let the line dry out more easily. I don't know where I heard that.

Hi Steve —-

It was sent out on May 27th —- but when we returned from Church yesterday, I stopped by the PO Box at the Post Office, and it had been returned to me stating "no such number".  I had just sent the Daiwa 500C a few days prior —- and thought this was the correct and same address.  So either I screwed up somehow, or the Post Office did.  I will research it and resend tomorrow.

From what I remember , it was called the momo spool .It was stronger in design to keep from blowing the sides out on the  spools .   The fluted spool Is a tick bigger in diameter for a better fit to the plate rings , keeping momo out of the side plates.

Joe,
I actually read that explanation on an older post recently. That sounds like a more plausible reason for fluting a spool. The post I saw it on was about a reel that suddenly had issues right after catching a fish.
It turned out that he was fishing monofilament and one side of the spool had split.

Those are difficult reels to work on if completely disassembled.  Be careful.

I did a full cleaning and restore on this one and I am no expert.
I did mess up on a washer and mixed up a couple screws as seen in my pictures. When I receive the gift from Professor Oakes, I will go back in and sort things out. I will take pictures.
