Can anyone identify this icon?

It's on the dash of my 1986 Klamath and I have no idea what it is.

If you flip the picture upside-down it almost looks like an international safety warning symbol. Internationaly, the triangle represents a "warning symbol" and the slash represents "Not", so maybe something like do not vent or release gas from this cylinder tank.

Pure guess.

I think John may be ohto something.

To me, turn it upside down —- and it looks like a cigarette with smoke.

With an angled bar across it denoting/warning the threat of the cigarette causing any fuel fumes to explode like a bomb (the round thing looks like a bomb).

Basically —- No smoking on the Boat!

Thanks guys but it's not upside down. It has two wires hooked up to it behind the dash. I showed it to the West Marine salesman, and it stumped him as well.

It's also an open aluminum boat so I doubt it's for ventilation, but who knows! There's no vent blower on the boat but that doesn't mean the previous owner didn't remove it. I thought it might be a kill switch, but it doesn't look like any kill switch I've seen. Also thought it may be for a bilge pump but there isn't a bilge motor on the boat either.

Thanks Joe for the link. It turns out whomever installed the mysterious "thing" installed it upside down. Good catch Fred.

AI also didn't know what it was...

So according to Joe's link it's an agricultural device meant to tell you if the motor is running. How it does this I have no idea because there is no visual indicator like a light. So I'm now I'm wondering why it's on a boat at all and what happens if I delete it.

The oil pressure switch usually turns this light on , sometimes it could be the alternator .
  Honda outboards have a green light on when running .

I pulled the battery, which was dead, when i stripped the decking out. I know for sure it does not have a visual indicator. I wonder if there is a speaker under the dash?

The motor is a 1989 Johnson 28SPL. Bullet proof and not terribly complicated.

I've found a lot of things that AI doesn't know. 

I've learned that it can't tell the difference between actual fact and stupid stuff people posted when it goes out there and gleens information. I avoid AI info like the plaque and do my own research. I have more confidence in my determination of what's true & factual than some ignorant Bot. It's getting harder and harder to bypass and eliminate AIs opinions, though.

    #4 is the busser in the control box .  That engine running was most likely added and would be driven from a coil under the fly wheel

You said it has two wires going into it. Are you sure there's no light underneath or molded into the symbol.  Since it has the slash across the synbol, a light coming on would indcate a fault condition or non running engine.
