Spinning reel or overhead? There's a few models.

I would say chuck it in a bucket of fresh water for half an hour. That'll dissolve the salt from anywhere that water can freely come and go. The other parts are pretty well sealed, how deep did it go and how long was it in the water for?

Do what you can with that you have where you are

Hardy Boy

Take it apart for a service and lube and dry and grease the drag washers. I've seen lots of reels that went for a dip ..... they need a service.

If it's a Saltiga spinner from the last decade or so, the drag is completely sealed.
If it's a magsealed model, taking it apart and lubing it is... complicated. And possibly pointless depending on the nature of the dunking.

We don't know what the reel is. Sealed drag .   ... usually leaks with a subversion .

yeah, this one has to come apart.  compressed air should blow out all of the excess water.  you'll know soon enough if the bearings rust. :-\
send me an email at alantani@yahoo.com for questions!

There's no such thing as a fully sealed reel! Soak it, open, clean, lube.

If it's more than 3-5yrs old the magoil has probably gone anyway, you may well need a new pinion support bearing as that is where the old rusty magoil usually ends up.  Search for all the posts on magoil or unobtainoil on here and you will get the sources for replacement.  Ferrotec APG-L11 is the gear you need.

Thank you everyone!!!!
More info:
It is a SASD35HA brand-new star drag purchased May 2026
It was in the water less than 20seconds
never exceeded 15 ft depth
Drag was maxed tight
I have a long range trip in 30 days
Please send any more suggestions
