I do that immediately if I hear any thunder or see lightning off in the distance, even if it's 25 or 30 miles away, but then that's pretty easy if your an inland lake fisherman. An aluminum boat is almost always the tallest thing around when you're out on a lake.

If I salt water fished I would probably go graphite/fiberglass composite since the fish are lots bigger & tougher to handle, but since I only fish fresh water and about the biggest fish I need to worry about is a a big old blue or flathead cat. I don't fish where there's sturgeon.

In some situations a nice slower parabolic flex for gentle presentations is desirable. I've only experienced this for dry fly casting. Maybe some would prefer it for delicate bait presentations.

A good mix with "the rise and fall" drama spiced with some continuing success(?) stories.

I watched the first part of the Avet "documentary".  I couldn't stand to watch more,

It is  riddled with both historical and technical errors. For example, the explanation of side load binding was ridiculously incorrect, and Avet did not invent putting ball bearings into lever drags before reels. Aargh.


It is pretty obvious that whoever is doing this does not have an understanding of the topic, let alone subject matter expertise. 

This thing is put together with strange, improperly used documentary cliches, and what is with the British accent?  And no credits?

This guy is cranking out "documentaries" by the day. Nothing about the originator other than  a link to a site selling fishing tips, which is probably more AI slop.

I must agree, these videos are AI generated. I too, have noticed many inaccuracies with the Mitchell Reel history. The person posting these videos is asking an AI video generator to create "bait-click" videos in mass as an attempt to generate revenue.

Eventually, someone is going to put a stop to him over copyright infridgements for using photos without consent of copyright holder. My guess is the AI tool is not checking the metadata of the photos for copyright information.

On a side note, I read somewhere the internet bot traffic now consumes precentage-wise, more bandwidth than humans consume.  @Gobi, sorry to hear this, your job fighting back the bots is difficult as it is and doesn't sound like there's any relief coming.

There are three basic components to this type of video; (a) the facts of the story turned into a script, (b) the audio recording of the script, and (c) the video portion with graphic representation.  There are millions of such videos covering every imaginable topic.  Common problems are 1) when the audio component mispronounces the written script/text, and 2) when the video misrepresents the script/text.

Using the Lew's video above as an example (the only one I watched) the person reading the text/script pronounces the word "bass" like the musical instrument instead of "bass" like the fish.  Maybe the reader lacks background knowledge of the subject or maybe the audio is some sort of text-to-voice software instead of a real person reading the script.  I do know about such things.

Having the video or still photos misrepresent the script is an even more common problem.  The creators seem to pull archival video or still photos from other sources instead of using purpose-made photography or recording.  In the Lew's example, photos of whole bamboo cane fishing poles and split bamboo cane rods are conflated.

Yeah, the ORCA site was practically non-accessible over the last month or so due to Bot invasions. Most days it would cycle forever and if one could actually access the site it would show 3500-4500 guests, which were Bots, probably AI, on at one time. I mentioned it to Matt and he did some techy things to block the Bots & help users access the site quicker without all the hesitation.

On a different note, the narrator is AI induced and AI has not yet been taught the different definitions and pronunciations of words that are spelled the same. It's actually funny to listen to but very annoying!
