:)    This is the way I see it .    A I is a new born child ,It wants to learn . It is going to learn from it`s surrounds .    When the bots go through picking up pieces of information and feeding this child what it finds , we as a fishing reel community need to keep our floors clean .   Clean up misinformation when we see it . or we will be just as bad as spreading misinformation ourselves .

When I watch the videos , I keep a open mind and view it as a murder mystery , the plot shifts and turns giving you back stories , and somehow it come together .   When something doesn't make sense I watch it again , pause it ,watch again .   After all it is about how fishing companies rose up and how they fell or slid down from former glory .    Did you learn anything from the content ?  Did it make you think ?

If there is a section of the site we don't like —- then just don't click on it.

My grandmother used to tell me that anything that isn't true and provable —- is a lie.

A big part of the AI problem is that information is so readily available to everyone nowadays —- and so much of it —- it is oftentimes taken for the truth —- instead of using common sense and research to ferret out the actual truth.

I asked A eye if the 10/0 penn senator ever came with a aluminum spool, and it said yes, and feferred to a thread here on AT where a member said the 10/0 did at some point, have an aluminum spool, but later in that same thread, Sal specifically stated that the 10/0 senator never had an aluminum spool, and of course Sal was right, but A eye went with the first guy in the thread that said it did come with aluminum spool.

I also asked A eye if it was possible for a man to give birth to a baby, and it said yes, it is possible, but then it said a man would have to first have a uterus transplanted into him, and that medical procedure has not yet happened

Thaaat's it. Dear Leader, Big Brother, mass surveillance, encroachment deeper into our personal lives, just give in and accept it, the control is for our own good and pursuit of happiness. It's all much easier when you accept that Big-money always gets what big-money wants.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

Maybe the A-eye will finally expose the truth about the elusive metal-framed 440SS. Until then, I'm sticking with Sal's version of events.

Ask your friendly AI agent this question "Please expose the truth about the elusive metal-framed 440SS. Were there any ever made and sold to the public".

After it provides you with its story, ask it to state all references for its work.  It will most likely be similar to this:

"The breakdown of the Penn Spinfisher 440SS history provided in our discussion does not draw from peer-reviewed scientific journals, academic texts, or formal research papers. Because of this, there are no academic citations or formal reference lists (such as APA, MLA, or BibTeX) to provide.

Instead, the information is synthesized from historical angling records, vintage tackle documentation, and the collective expertise of the vintage fishing community. ..."

And AI will go on to provide more information for its sources, one being ORCA.  From there, you'll have to determine your own conclusion. The AI search helpers are only a tool, not the source of truth or false information.

Always ask for references, it will be happy and proud to provide them.

Yes - I ran that prompt through beforehand :)

I threw out the 440SS out there specifically as a test and in fun to see if it would match what we know to be an expert's opinion, with the moonshot chance that someone might have actually found the unicorn.

I think AI is going to stay a punching bag of jokes for sometime.

Been meaning to tell you.  I finally swapped out the carb on the rototiller we were messaging each other a while back.  Went in real easy and ironically, used AI to help me adjust it.
I fish because the voices in my head tell me to.

AI has changed my life in many ways, some good, some terrible.

I do some coding for work and as a hobby. Through vibe coding I have built things I never could have otherwise. Example: I built a highly functional fishing trip logging app. It has weather and map APIs, stores catches in a secure database (unlike the current mainstream fishing apps), and it let's you log a catch with two clicks while fishing. I never had the focus to log my catches before, but I've logged every fish since, and I've even logged old catches based on old photos. The app pulls weather data for the time/location of each catch, and I can already see some trends.
AI helped me fix my outboard (shift cam was worn), and served as a great thought partner on countless problems.
On the other hand, working in ed tech I get to see the ugliest side of AI - - students and even teachers using it to do work with minimal effort. I won't bore you with details, but we are hit with new issues all the time where students have found new ways to cheat that bypass all the walls we try to put up. Our district is finally formally limiting screen time next year, and that's the right move. Pencil and paper is mostly the right answer in class.

Of course it hallucinates too, and will continue to do so as long as it tries to make sense of everything the internet says about a single topic.

Quote from: slosh on Today at 12:44:59 AMOf course it hallucinates too

I've come to hate the marketing hype that makes AI sound human-like, such as the word hallucinates.

AI doesn't do that; it just gets the data wrong by trusting its pre-trained models, fabricating a response using the statistically highest probability of the information found by its LLM neural network.

If the training of an LLM is optimized for human-like language patterns, it can be tripped up when the statistical math fails to isolate the exact truth. Rather than responding with "I don't know," the system is forced by its architecture to blend related concepts and deliver a plausible answer. This is why you must challenge the outputs whenever an answer doesn't make sense.

Ultimately, LLMs rely entirely on pre-trained mathematical probabilities; a factual error occurs when a specific, accurate data point is simply out-voted by a more common, plausible-sounding pattern in its internal web of weights. Much like statistical polling, if the statistical results are trending high for a plausible-sounding response, the model will go with that response.

To be honest I just watched just 10 seconds of the video about Penn reels and instantly I recognised AI slop. Not worth my time and I will stick with the good old HI :) .
