So I got a replacement handle for 50 W 2 speed Cal Conversion. Now I need advice on how to get the lock screw aligned with its threaded hole. The lock ring and the 2 speed button assembly seem to be fused together. Any ideas? Best, Mike

Just got to give it a jiggle and it should pop off. They are definitely 2 separate parts. If I remember right, the nut is plated brass and actually quite soft, if someone has torqued it against the lock ring it may have slightly dug into it.

Right, it just needs a little help.  The lock ring will pop right off.

If it won't jiggle off, try jamming something like a very thin screwdriver or knife between the lock ring and the handle and prying it off.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Mike, but it's permanently debilitated and will never be a functional reel.  I collect such things and will give you ten bucks for it.

If you tap the lock ring anticlockwise enough to loosen the bolt, you might be able to unscrew the bolt completely and then tap out the bolt from the lockring once both are free of the handle etc.

All good ideas. If none work, I'd tape the tool jaws or the retainer itself and try to wiggle it up and down to free it. Squirt some oil in there too. If that doesn't work I will give you $15 USD. Sorry, Steve but those are great reels and I need a mate for the one I have :)

You guys are right again. I put a Kroil on it and tapped it with a small ball peen hammer. When I get back home tonight I'll use my Alan Tami wrench to align the holes. I really appreciate the more than generous offers to buy from OC1 and Thorhammer. You epitomize Ohani  :al

Before reassembly, I would look really close at the handle nut and lock ring for any "burrs" caused by the hangup.  Maybe just a light little hit with a fine file/stone to insure good clean engagement when you reassemble so it doesn't happen again. - john

I'll do that for sure. I think it was just years of dirt and oil drying out and making it stick.
