Has anyone bought a vehicle from Carvana? I read good things on reddit, anyhow a friend of mine's work truck keeps breaking down on him.
He needs something dependable maybe with a warranty without the big price tag if possible.

I remember hearing something bad about the business practices of one of those type of companies. Best to check it out first, or listen to someone who has experience/knowledge.
People who need something right away, and/or cheap, can get taken advantage of eaisly.

I sold a vehicle to Carmax. Never been a buyer from either Carmax or Carvana.

I know people who use it regularly with no complaints.
Little pricey for me, but I can see the appeal of no haggling and home service.

At the time of my last vehicle buy, I looked pretty close at Carvana.  They were not interested in dealing with a guy out in the rural sticks of Minnesota, and I would have had to go all the way to Kansas City to get close to a pickup I was interested in.  And, yes, the price was high.

I can only provide input on Carmax.

I've sold several cars to Carmax.  You let their techs go over your car and they provide an offer that is good for 7 days.  I have always found their offers to be on the better side, and you don't have to deal with any DMV paperwork.  They do have limitations on how old your car is, and what type of power.  And I have provided Carmax offers to dealerships when dealing with trade-ins (only if I think it may move things along establishing value of my trade-in).

My first experience was selling them a Jeep over 15 years ago, that had lost the reverse in the transmission.  A transmission shop had given me an estimate of $2500 just to start on the repair.  I told the Carmax rep, and he gave me a great offer because their techs could repair the reverse problem for a lot less money.
