Hi everyone,

Selling this reel for my brother and want to get it right before we do anything with it. Side plate is stamped "Mod.F / PENN / Pat. Pend / Philadelphia, Pa" — my understanding is this was one of Penn's first two reel designs, 1932-33, before it got renamed Sea Hawk.

Plates look complete, no cracks. Some plating loss and oxidation on the crank and screws, which seems normal for the age. Handle turns fine and the mechanism seems to work, but I haven't torn it down or had it serviced.

Can anyone confirm this is actually a Model F and not a K or a later relabel? Also curious if the stamp style tells you anything about exact year, and whether anything in the photos looks off — replaced parts, repairs, that kind of thing. If anyone's seen what these have actually been going for lately, that'd help too.

Can post more photos — underside, inner plate, whatever's useful. Thanks in advance.

That's gonna be an auction determined price. Unless I'm mistaken only one other has been found.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

There are many model F reels known to exist. Hard to find yes.
Put it on eBay and see where it goes.

I'd caution anyone from trying to buy it directly off of you for a few reasons
1) you just joined
2) you're selling for someone else
3) scammers who are new members and selling for someone else run rampant on forums and social media

Haven't seen one pop up in 10years on ebay and then it was only sold to the right people,,, ;D

Thanks for your feedback. My brother really wants to trade the reel for a boat. I'm wondering if there are any Facebook groups you can recommend or if you think marketplace is a viable option?

Scams are a real concern and at the very least scammers are much easier to spot Facebook.

I've sold thousands of items on eBay and in my experience they always side with the customer on any disputes.

 A nice condition model F can fetch $1500. Yours definitely shows its been well used. I'd estimate the value at around $600-$800, as long as theres no cracks,chips or chunks in the sideplates

 There is a facebook group for Penn reels. Look for Michael Cacioppo on facebook. He wrote the Penn history book, and I'm certain he would love to see the model f, and could also help you put a roundabout price on it

What is your brother's name?
does he have an idea what he has in mind for the trade?

It will give us compulsive buyers an idea what items we need to sell to raise the cash to buy the item you have.

LOL, good luck on your sale. If it were new in original box, you may find a buyer for $2,000, but your model f has been fished hard and put away wet. As for your previous enquiry, the model f and model k are completely different reels. The model k has a drag star and drag washers, and the model f is a cheaper version of the model k,  and is direct drive with no drag washers.

$650 private sell $950 to $1150 ebay,,,? I would fish it,,,,, ;D
