Tranx 400 Stuck Side Plate Screws

I got a Tranx 400 that I am working on and the Right Side Plate screws are stuck any idea's would be great.

Corroded or just stuck? Try tightening the screw a tad, sometimes that's enough to break it loose.

The screws will not move    I have some PB Blaster on them this reel is super salt crusty I had to remove the tension knob and use a brass punch to get the spool out.

I've had decent results with PB Blaster too, sometimes soaking up to 24 hours. Make sure your screwdriver or bit is a solid, tight fit. I think the cross point screws used by Shimano and others are slightly different than US. I bought some JIS bits a while back and they fit Shimano cross point screws really well. Sometimes a light tap or two helps break a stuck screw loose too.

I've come across this problem a couple times. Let me guess. It's the bottom screw. Be careful as it's easy to wreck the screw heads.
What worked for me was I put it in the freezer for a couple hours. I had tried everything before that.

Yup, they are JIS (Japinese Industrial Standard) not philips and a Philips driver can destroy them.

Thanks for all the reply's,  I got the screws out! Put a little heat on the reel with a hairdryer and it sucked the PB Blaster in under the screw head and did the trick.

If all fails drill the head off the screws.

Kroil has worked wonders for me + applying heat via soldering iron. Glad you got it out.
