Sabre rod Yellowtail colors

this is what happens when I get the order from the owner to do whatever I wanted to do with the fishing rod, any color combination, paint it or not, etc. my head just start running and want to try new things that I didnt even tried on my own rods .. I do it for the science !!!


I already have made few "mahi mahi" color fishing rods, this is my version of a  Yellowtail fishing rod, the restored rod was an old sabre rod.

Man our YT are much darker down here. Like moss green and much paler yellow. Might be a water temperature thing.

   Very nice !!   What paint did you use for the blue ,It has the right shade and is translucent for the yellow to show through .     What did you shoot through to keep the line nice between the yellow and blue for the length of the pole ?

not really, my work is based on a paint/draw of a yellowtail to take the signature colors of the fish and try to put them on the blank, our YT is also kinda darker and more greenish than blueish on the back, also, some fish dont have the yellow stripe in the middle as others.

let me check the color on the spray can to tell you,  I only used a steady hand to keep the line of colors on the blank distinc from each other, the blank was lay on a fence when I was painting it

The big YT are sometimes called mossbacks due to the color!

maybe the next one I will paint it moss green on the top, I like vivid colors on the rods (as you might noticed already) thats why I choose that blue on the top.
