Derby Day !!

 Today is coho derby day in puget sound. The fishing club that runs this derby usually sells 800-1,000 derby tickets. 1st place is $5k. This is a warm up one day derby. The big derby is 2 weeks away and will have over 2,000 people fishing that for $10k 1st prize

 The main boat launch for central puget sound is in north everett, about 3 minute drive from home. 13 lanes to launch from and an hour before daylight, there will be 150+ boats lined up waiting to launch, so I launch at 3:30am to beat the crowd, then just muttle out into the darkness, waiting for daylight. Best part about this fishery, is the best area to fish is only 6 miles from the launch !! The pic is looking back towards Everett and the sunrise

 I've been fishing coho here for 35+ years, and my goal each day is to catch my limit(2). I started fishing coho this month on Sept 1st, and have 23 coho on my catch record card, a few of which were caught in Westport last month. The derby doesnt thrill me, but I always buy a ticket to support the club. To me its just another day to catch a couple salmon. My goal is to fill a couple bins in my chest freezer with coho fillets. I smoke some, can some, and make big batches of salmon chowder to portion and freeze in boiling bags, and share with friends and neighbors

If you won the big prize, at least you might be able to fill the fuel tanks in the boat a couple of times!

 Fred, lol, I have 120 gallon tank. About $650 to fill, and thats why I never let it get below half a tank. $320 for half tank is an easier pill to swallow
