Penn 1/0 Corrosion Explosion

Picked up an ugly lot on E.
This little tank needed some love.
The question is about corrosion and how you guys handle it. Is vinegar going to be any better than 0000 steel wool?
I used steel wool and a little polish and then took everything apart for a full look.
The mechanicals are good. I need to replace the posts and the spool eventually. The foot is ugly but not a big concern. Rings cleaned up pretty decent. Fishable ?

That looks better than results I get with vinegar. Sold my 1/0 last year. Guy that bought it uses it for surf fishing.

I recently tried a product that I saw Dennis, 2nd chance tackle videos, use to remove that green crud. Flitz metal prep, spray it on, wait 1 minute, rinse with clear water. It works as advertised.
Had to use a toothbrush in some crevices but overall a great product.

I admire your skill and patience in bringing reels back. I never seem to achieve the results you did with this 1/0. Great job. What I've found to be the hardest to clean are guides on vintage rods. I had good results with the Flitz on a crusty 113H Special Senator I just acquired. I'm going to try it on a rod next.

 Excellent work bringing that little tank back to life. Your spool is stainless steel, and very capable, so no need to replace it. The click tongue and ring looks unused, which is a bonus, cause penn designed this one as non replaceable. A fresh drag stack and a grease job and you'll be ready to rock & roll !!
