That's how I have mine setup in the shop. Wire wheel on the left side with no shield and abrasive wheel on the opposite side.  Look for a 1/2" arbor brass fine wire wheel on Amazon or local harbor freight.  Shouldn't cost much more than $10.

Gets pretty humid out here as well, and I've tried to adhere to the rule of always cleaning a tool and allowing it to dry thoroughly—-before putting it away.

Stuff I care about gets a wipe-down with multi-lubricant once in awhile...but for the most part I just try to keep them clean and dry, and allow the natural patina that forms to do its work.

I take a can of WD-40 and spray down the whole pile of tools at once if they start looking sketchy.

Good lord, Steve, you've got quite the tool arsenal in that garage!  :o  You should add a window AC in there so you can spend more time in it! Doubt you need any heat down there where you're located.

Quote from: Midway Tommy on September 29, 2026, 10:08:26 PMFred's got the lock on that stuff, they don't seem to have a shipping option, at least that I've ever found. I think you have to live in Fred's vicinity to be able to pick it up.

I just use Fred's bench grinder wire wheel approach to remove the rust. Generally I don't do much of anything else other than putting it in the tool chest on a mat. If I have something I really want protected I'll either coat it with Penetrol or spray it with Extend.

Tried to buy a spray can on their website but the paypal option is not working right now. Freight is more than the product?
I do have some Penetrol and will give that a try.
I do not have a wire wheel in my arsenal but will check out harbor freight.

I received a call today from Gerry Moreno, the President and CEO of JAYMORS. He offered to pay the freight on my order so I could give his product a try.
It's amazing how word travels these days. I'm still not sure how he had my phone number.
Vert nice gentleman.

Fred
I told him that you were the one promoting his product on the site and he recognized your name immediately.
Still amazed that he called me. What company CEO does that?
Old school like so many of us on this site. He needs a sticky under lubricants or whatever is appropriate for his product.
Thanks

I'm wondering if you miss interpreted which Steve's garage I was talking about?

Had to get some tools recently that I never had the need for before:

Tube flarer
Tube bender
Flare nut wrench

And, what do you think those were for?

Corroded auto brake lines.  What a lousy job. Double tough with all the rust on everything--I was sure I would strip some of the nuts holding the old lines on, or maybe the brake bleeding screws.  Lucked out.  Hopefully, never again.

My bad.

I'm pretty well along in the "tool" game....first, needing them, then 'wanting them', then "collecting them"...and then on to forgetting just what I have, or where it's at, and now I'm in the "tripping over them", so I'm about to enter the "just get rid of them' stage!"
There's nothing wrong with a few "F's" on your record....Food, Fun, Flowers, Fishing, Friends, and Fun....to name just a few !
