BTW, you should be looking over your shoulder for cops to pull up in your driveway, cause at that price, you stole it. Just the aluminum spool is worth $40-$50

The spool is marked 109D-115.
I don't see it listed on Mystic or anywhere else.
I keep looking for reasons that the reel was so cheap.
I will be removing all the line next to see if the spool is corroded underneath.
I hope it is in good shape.
Thanks!

Most likely you took advantage of someone that did not know the value of this reel.

The metal to metal washers on the drag stack is not a issue even if the top one is not a bellville, they are both keyed and turn together with the shaft.

I am almost 5 weeks out of surgery and am healing OK, unless I do something stupid, like trying to get our house fixed from the tree damage.  I just had
my 74th Bday and worked 2 part time jobs and a seasonal full time one until last March when my bad leg finally quit working, from moving heavy things out of the house.  My seasonal job shut down and as soon as we get into a house and my leg can take it I will be looking for more work.  Unfortunately age and disability makes jobs hard to find and my trade required a lot physically..

I did not take advantage of anyone. I asked questions and the seller said that they knew nothing about the condition of the reel.
I took a chance.
I gave the seller what they asked for the reel and took a chance that it did not need 2 new frame posts and screws and possibly a new spool because it's condition was hidden under all the line. That is still to be determined.
The seller gave me 5 stars and is happy.
No worries.

We are pulling your leg.  Great deal.

Dont take it personally. Getting good deals on reels happens because people just want to wave goodbye to them.

I've got some mind blowing deals on ebay from sellers that had no idea of how much their reel was worth. Its not my job to educate them. Bought a super clean, all original first year(1937) penn 12/0 on ebay for $200 buy it now. Few months later I listed it on ebay as an auction, with a starting price at $350, and bidding went thru the roof, and ended up selling at $1300. I have no remorse for the person "I stole it from", cause I didnt steal it, I simply paid what the seller was asking.

Happy to hear you got a nice 9/0 for a decent price. Hope it catches you lots of fish !!

I picked up a Jigmaster 501 for a far to low price because it looked like it had iron rust on it.  It came from a mining town in Wyoming and had never been used.  The grease and oil inside was solidified and it was covered in rust colored dust.  It is my nicest Jigmaster.

On the other side I traded a really clean 501 for a 349HLH with a cracked sideplate, warped spool and crusty rings and I felt I got the best out of the deal.  It was the only LH 349/349H I have ever seen and I had the parts to make it as new, including internals.  I made a CAD drawing of the left hand 15-349LH AR dog and built an aluminum spooled one for pacific halibut fishing.  If my memory is correct Ted donated the Newell unobtanium (aluminum) 349 spool and for sure supplied the handle arm (blade) and handle.   I recently picked up a Cortez Conversion SS 349/349H gearsleve that will replace the SS 113H gearsleve that is in it now.

Yep, and I bet that 12/0 is worth much more nowadays. Nicest '37 12/0 I've ever seen. Very worthy of your Penn collection

As far as deals go, two come to mind.  An early Nep-Tuna cradle reel with a Penn 349HC, paid $27 at a pawn shop.  The rod was missing guides, but with the Ohana is was rebuilt to better than new.  The second is a Penn DelMar 286 with the box and some papers, paid $25.  The box was repaired and now sits proudly on the display shelf.

I won't be grudge anyone for striking a deal when both parties are satisfied. And I'm only now admitting to these, because the statute of limitations are over  ;D

Happy Hunting guys, deals are still out there.

Bill
It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

A good friend stopped at a pawn shop, and there on a shelf was a new in pristene box  1933 Penn long beach 60, with brochure, for $30. He offered the guy $25, but the guy wouldn't budge lol. He snatched it up, knowing it easily was worth $800+

Are you confessing or bragging?
Nice find.

Confessing. Also, 4500SSV Liveliner NIB, $35 at pawn shop. USA made Slammer 560, two NIB for $50 each. Four Abu 2500 and two 1500C's for $120 total once. New 113HL that "didn't work" for $30. It had line wrapped around spool and wouldn't reel...
